Olivia's [1st] Rainbow Party

Planning parties is one of my favorite things to do! I get super excited about it, not to mention, it's an outlet for all my pent up creativity. My party planning philosophy is "think outside the charactery party box....oh, and don't spend a bunch of money.":) I usually do all of my parties at home, but, on occasion, have utilized certain parks and farms as an alternative.

here's how I put together my 1 year old daughter's rainbow party on a small budget:

cake!

I used to be a custom cake fan. I still am, but with 4 kids and counting, I'm not too keen on spending $75 for some flour and sugar. Target makes wonderful cakes. Not only do they taste good, but they're super affordable. With my cartwheel app giving me 10% off coupled with my Target Red (debit....not credit:)) card, this cake comes in at less than $20!

Since I wanted the party after naptime but before it got dark out, I went with a 3pm start time. One year old parties need to be short and to the point. So I planned to end the party at 4:30 which was actually more than enough time!  Since the time didnt revolve around mealtime, I opted for a snack time kind of display. To keep with theme, and to keep it both kid and adult friendly, I chose to make my own fruit and veggie trays. But not just any fruit and veggie trays....these trays were rainbow style complete with "dipping clouds".  i included red and yellow sweet peppers, baby carrots, celery, and eggplant on the veggie one and strawberries, clementines, pineapple, kiwi, blueberries, and grapes on the fruit one.

For something crunchy, I put out a bowl of rainbow goldfish. Target also had VitaminWater brand fruitwater on sale. So for $.70 a bottle, I got rainbow colored drinks!

For favors, I found "over the rainbow" crayons for less than $1. A pack of skittles and a small prism toy is just enough to thank the little guys for coming.

Ill leave you with some more pics of the party...the outfit I made for less than $20(including shoes and hair bow)...and some fun chocolate gold coins(.$10/each).
