"After the child's needs of love and nourishment are provided for, the child plays." - Susan Schaeffer Macaulay A friend of mine posted this quote on her Instagram account the other day, along with a picture of her child playing. I was immediately struck by this quote! It was so profound. Why have I never thought of this before?

It was really powerful for me to think about. Whenever the kids are winey, or driving me insane it's just all about me. My immediate response is "go play!" "Look at all the toys we have for you!" "Run along, every things fine!" … I'm just wanting a second to myself! I never really think, that something might be wrong, or my child is in need of something greater than them just being winey. Now every time they approach me with their crazy screams, I think of what this woman has said, and I try to read their little minds to figure out what their need really might be.

Now, every time I see my kids playing by themselves, I'm encouraged! I feel like the most amazing mom ever, I have met all of my kids needs! How awesome is that?!!

I hope this quote encourages you, as much as it did me. I hope that it challenges you to be the best mom you can be, and also encourages you whenever you see your little ones playing…. that you give yourself a little pat on the back. Good job mom, you're amazing!
